My wife and I spent 3 nights in Miami Beach. At the end of the first night, we really craved some good Mexican food. One block from our apartment, we found Paquitos. It's open until 5:00 AM on the weekends. Not only were the family members/owners warm and inviting, they were serving up original family recipes which were second to none. When we returned the second night, they greated us like family. ! We tried samples of their mom and dad's recipes. The meatballs were outstanding as well as the Paquitos original creamy, cheesy, luscious sauce, OMG! The green sauce made of jalapeño and cilantro was excellent with the right amount of heat. The habanero sauce is not for the delicate palate!! Fiery, hot and delicious. This was our favorite sauce. We actually took 1/2 of a burrito home to have for breakfast. Yes, It's that good! It really doesn't matter that there's no outside seating because the food and the hospitality is what separates Paquitos from the others. I had mentioned when we placed our order that I needed a cup of ice for when we left. Not only did I not need to remind them, the owner brought it to our seat as we were getting up to leave. That's the difference! Cheers, James

Had a free sample out front and had to try it, best Mexican I've had in Miami. Prices are very reasonable, I'll definitely be back

Delicious food - the guisado tacos were incredible! The salsa bar was great too; our favorites were the habanero and chipotle salsas! Unexpectedly good hard taco shell too. Friendly people, great prices. Wish we lived in Miami for many reasons - paquito is now one of them!

I guess my brother Alex beat me to it, but I had to write a review myself. First off, I consider myself to be a Mexican-food-aholic. I'm from So Cal and grew up on Mexican food. I've eaten Mexican food all over from San Diego to San Francisco to San Antonio and Austin, TX. We totally stumbled upon this place last Sunday the 19th and walked in at about 3am after a long night of having fun. I walked up and ordered a steak burrito as I do with most Mexican places I eat at, and said I wanted the burrito spicy. Apparently, these guys do spicy and asked me how hot I wanted it to be. I said "as hot as you can make it," and they smiled and said that I should measure the amount of habanera salsa I wanted to be in my burrito, I found that level of customer service to be pretty neat. While I was waiting for my burrito they gave me some complimentary chips and salsa and I almost fell out of my seat when I tasted hope good their salsa was. I recommend the red house salsa and the green jalapeno salsa for those that dig spicy, they are INCREDIBLE. So as my brother stated we talked to the two brothers that own the place for a while and they guys are AWESOME. They explained how they make all their salsa homemade and that its a family recipe. I said I would buy gallons of it and bring it back to California if I could! Long story short.......BEST BURRITO I"VE EVER HAD, NO QUESTION. Delicious, fresh, and put together like a work of art. The two brothers talked to me and my brother for a while and their parents own the restaurant version in Miami, they just started this one on their own a few months ago I think and I swear I would eat it almost every day if I lived in Miami. Try this place out, YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!

Everything was home cooked and a personal service. Feels like a mom n pop star shop but food was delicious and festive home cooking. Little or to get your food but was worth the wait!

Locally sourced ingredients and fresh! Open late with a full menu available. They even have a salsa bar!

Awesome Mexican joint with friendly and helpful service and amazing queso! When I walked in I was warmly greeted by the entire staff and was offered to try a bunch of things off their menu! They had me sample some of their marinated meats and their queso. Once I tasted the queso, I knew I wanted some nacho chips and chicken to accompany it! It was the perfect late night meal and their salsa bar is on point! They're known for their burritos so I'll have to try that next time!

This place is delectable! The 4 sister owners are so nice and caring. It feels like your eating at your grandmas house on a cold winter night and you got nothing to worry about.

Staff are super friendly and had a great conversations with then there. The food is amazing and have come twice in two days! As a vegan they made me a burrito with no cheese and sour cream and if was the best I've ever had. They have a sauce counter which was great, watch out for the spicy habinero ... It's pure fire. Will definitely be coming back when I'm in Miami. Danielle (The Cockney) London, England

The food is delicious, the best mexican food I ever had. This place should be added to 'must do' list in miami. Its a small place, but you can enjoy every tiny bite of food, better than any restaurant at ocean drive. The owners are great people, who always have new things to offer other than menu. I am pure vegeterian and the food is heaven.. Owners gave us rice water to taste, and I could not resist to ask for more. I never imagined to eat cactus, but they have this cactus plant to offer which was yummy too. Not sure, but I guess the name was 'Nopale'. Don't miss to eat here.. Just tell them what you like and what you don't, they will customize accordingly. And the place is really cheap and affordable.

Best Mexican food in Miami!!!! The service is great since the staff is awesome. I have lunch here since I work nearby but they are also open till 5 am if you're out late! Best part is they have two locations!!! Consistent 5 star service in both. :)

Such a respite from the typical surf and turf of Miami. We ordered the steak burrito which was great, but the guarache was out of this world. We have had this in Soho (NYC) but this is the best by far. Eat it with the green sauce which is spicy but not "too spicy". Whatever you order will not disappoint! I could and might eat here every day that I'm in Miami.

Wow! What a find! This place is so, so good if you're looking for a more authentic Mexican food experience on South Beach. Excellent amount of options, and really good salsa. It's a pretty small space, maybe only fitting in 20 people at maximum, but I can't find any other downsides to stuffing your face with one of their guaraches.

Flew in late so finding a quick stop to eat was necessary. Stumbled into this Taco spot and was surprised at the quality of food so late at night (1am). Had the Chorizo and chicken tacos... They were great! The owner, Antonio was super cool and broke down some items I hadn't heard about. He also has a salsa layout that was amazing. He was very accommodating and even suggested places to visit while I was in Miami. Love this place for its attention to detail in their food prep. Feels like I found a hidden gem.

Tacos al pastor were terrific. They serve their tracks with cheese and sour cream. I think Paquitos is trying to cater American tastes while still being authentic. I wanted my taco traditional style, and they are happy I asked for it to be prepared that way - soft corn tortilla, no sour cream, no cheese. As I waited for my freshly cooked taco, I was served a small basket of chips, two salsas, guacamole, and queso. Will return for the taco sampler and other interesting items in the menu.

A hole in the wall type Mexican place - great place to hit up if you plan to be around Ocean Drive - it's open till late as well. Not too great for groups of more than 3-4 (it's mainly a bunch of high seated table chairs) We ordered the chicken burrito and the soft chicken tacos - the chicken burrito was yum, however the soft tacos were meh (I've had better). Definitely have the burrito, and ask for the spicy habanera sauce if you want yours to be extra spicy!

No outdoor seating. Only one table for four inside. Otherwise sit at a counter along wall. You order at the counter. I got the 4 taco sampler. The pork was so salty I couldn't eat it. The ground beef, steak, and chicken were just okay. The tacos are served in flour shells and topped with shredded cheddar cheese....NOT authentic. The chips and salsa are $2.99 for a plate of chips. You then pick your salsa from the salsa bar. I liked the habanero salsa. The refried beans were not good. I am a bean connoisseur and these tasted canned and then burnt on a stove. They didn't look like any refried beans I had ever seen before. You can see it in my picture. The sampler was $8.99, which was affordable for South Beach. There is a bathroom behind the door that says "Staff Only". The ladies working said they are related to the Paquito restaurant in Aventura. I haven't been, but don't think I'll run there to try it after this meal. There is metered street parking out front. If you aren't paying attention you will walk right by this place. The signage isn't very good.

My friend and I came here on a Monday night for a quick bite. We had great service and great chicken tacos. I would definitely recommend it for anyone looking for good food without all the tourist gimmicks on Ocean Drive.

  • Liz G.

The food was average at best... I was excited to visit this little hole in the wall and according to previous reviews enjoy something tasty. Unfortunately the food was mediocre and bland. The salsa was fresh and the guacamole was good but it could not make up for that steak burrito. The steak wasn't seasoned and I ended up dumping more than half of it.

My friends and I were shopping in the area and were looking for a quick place to stop and eat. This fit the bill. I ordered two soft tacos - al pastor and chicken. Both were good, but I preferred the al pastor. The tacos were a bit on the small side. We also got complimentary tortilla chips and salsa. The salsa was very fresh. I also ordered horchata which was refreshing. If you're in the area and need a quick bite to eat, you should come here.

Very good cantina style Mexican. NO Tex Mex! This place doesn't have everything taste like sloppy joes with paprika. The food is great and authentic. Prices are very fair, especially for the beach, and the owner is a super nice guys who clearly loves his restaurant. Don't miss the guarache or the bean tacos.

Was looking for something to eat besides the touristy restaurants along ocean drive. Saw this place had good reviews. Walked in and was hesitant because of the actual place. But forget all that. Food is great, if I'm ever in Miami again I'll be back

This food reminds me of the tasty Mexican food in California. I ordered the chicken tacos and the chicken was moist and seasoned to perfection. They have a salsa bar and we loved all of them. The food is served on plastic plates, in fact they have plastic everything - utensils and cups. I didn't mind that as the food was delicious! We also ordered the nachos, the cheese could have been hotter but it was still really good. The server was attentive and the place was clean. This place is definitely on the list of must go places!

I was in Miami for a week and came here three times -- that's how good it is. Their quesadillas (especially chicken and veggie) are really good and their chicken burrito is AMAZING, and so are their tacos. They have a pretty extensive menu, so I didn't get to try everything, but everything I had was very flavorful. This is a great spot for a snack after the beach, or a casual and yummy lunch or dinner. The owners are also really friendly locals, so make sure to chat with them while you're there! Definitely would recommend for anyone who likes Mexican food visiting South Beach.

Carne asada and albondigas tacos. Lacked authentic Mexican flavors that Southern California beings to my palate. I was hoping for more street style tacos but I was just disappointed. Next just keep it simple and bring more flavors to the meats.

Delicious!!!! Ate here twice during visit! Tried beef burrito and chicken burrito. Very reasonable. Staff very friendly. Not much seating as seen in previous reviews, but wouldn't keep me from going there!

Antonio the owner was awesome offered amazing Mexican fare on 6th and Washington!! Agua de Jamaica or the horchata was mouth watering as well as there taquitos and burritos!! Must try authentic Mexican with the best prices on the beach!!!!

  • José T.

The food is great for the price, although I recommend avoiding the grilled chicken. Also, I personally prefer the cilantro and onion topping option, which is standard in Mexico. Also the women who work there are very sweet although totally disorganized. The main concern for me was that they don't wash hands or use gloves between touching money and making food. Isn't there some kind of law about that?

Summary: Eat here, get a burrito, eat their homemade salsa, chat with the owners. My brother and I were visiting Miami from Southern California and wandered into Paquitos around 3am looking for a place to eat after hitting the clubs. We both ordered steak burritos, and the owners gave us some chips to try the salsa, or maybe we ordered chips...I can't remember (for obvious reasons). The salsa was amazing, every kind. I didn't try the habenero salsa but my brother did and had them put some on his burrito. They make you measure out and hand them exactly how much habenero you want, which is great because then whiny people can't complain about how there's too much on there. I believe the brothers names who run the joint were Antonio and Francisco, and they told us all about their business. The salsa is a homemade recipe passed down through generations, and it sure tastes like it. We knew after tasting the salsa that the burritos would be delicious, and they were. Coming from San Diego, I've tried a ton of different "late-night" burrito joints. Paquitos stands out from the crowd by a long shot. The ingredients really make a difference. The burrito is served cut in half, so you can see a cross-section of it and all the goodies in there. When you can actually distinguish the different ingredients of a burrito is when you know that those ingredients are delicious and important. A lot of burritos from places I've tried are great, but very greasy and your burrito is kind of just like a mush of sauces and cheeses, i.e. indistinguishable ingredients. Paquito's burrito had a multitude of different flavors that stood out from one another -- a true burrito. It was a perfect way to end the night, eating this burrito and their chips and amazing salsa. The brothers treated us like very welcome guests, and I can tell they really care about their business. Their hospitality is the reason I'm writing this review, because I know that they will listen to any feedback, and I'm sure they read every word of every review on this page and take it all very seriously. That's what sets businesses aside from just run-of-the-mill fast food joints. (Btw the girl who gave a one-star review also gave a 5-star review to a funeral home, so how much can her opinion really be worth? lol) Thanks again guys, can't wait to come back some time!

Excellent. Prices are great. Owners are the best! Super sweet people. Food is awesome. Portions are generous. Party of 5. We had steak quesadilla (OMG so good) Nachos (so good) Tacos (didn't try them but the other people said they were DELISH! Flautas (real Mexican Flautas that I've been craving since I moved to Miami and this is the first place that claims and is authentic Mexican on the beach). Owners are the BEST. This was our first time there and we couldn't decide what we wanted so they were nice enough to make samples of certain items for free. I don't mean throw something in the microwave, they literally went and got a steak and chicken, seasoned and cooked it on the grill in front of us. Everything was great, people are amazing and prices are the best ($2 tacos, $4 Flautas, $4 quesadillas, $5 nachos loaded with meat, cheese, sour cream, you name it. This place is a must visit!

Awesome. Excellent. Amazing. We couldn't choose between those adjectives so we decided to use all three! The food was fresh and delicious, the women working there were super sweet and accomodating, and we couldn't believe how much food we got for twenty bucks! Found it via yelp for an early dinner on our first day here and plan on going again before we leave.

Let me just start off by saying that I was passing by and was pretty shocked in seeing a Mexican place in sobe hesitated but by the owners persistence in that he stated I would enjoy the food I took up his offer to try it. Followed by a rush of people after my friends and I to join in eating at this place. Customer service was extremely friendly and welcoming unlike that of many places in pretentious sobe restaurants. So that to me is a big deal. Food was good. Had a steak burrito. I recommend the chicken tacos! My friend had them and she licked her darn fingers! LoL. The beans were the only thing that were a little dry in my burrito. Habanero sauce made me cough since its pretty spicy but good enough to eat. I would definitely go back to this place to eat. Next time I do need to try the huaraches which they were out of. Every great business starts off with a great greeting and approach followed by good food. Overall I rate this place a 9 out of 10. Don't think about it just go inside and try it out. Brought me back to my Chicago Mexican places. Thanks for the good food and ambiance! -Andrew

Went here for spring break looking for a quick, cheap place to eat. The service was amazing and the food was delicious. Put simply, I will definitely be going back Side note, we asked where we could buy ice and instead of telling us a place to go, the guy who took our orders went to the back room and got us two bags of ice instead.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
